Letter from a reader to Corruption Sucks Blog

I abhor the abuse of power, Ean. It should never be ignored. This country was founded on the principle of the inalienable rights of all and the freedom to express our outrage if we find ourselves or others being oppressed. Many are quick to point out the irony that our founding fathers only meant a specific class of men in the original documents and some even owned slaves.

But the principles of those documents are a living social contract that we must continue to amend and uphold for the rights of all. It is a social contract that becomes void when abused; however, I equally abhor hasty generalizations based on race alone. I measure a person by action and words, never appearance. I am a voting member of the Cherokee Nation, but nobody would ever guess by looking at me. We had our Trail of Tears, but I do not feel the government owes me anything. I am an American and proud of the democratic system that allows us to speak our minds and act upon our convictions in a peaceful and civilized way. Do I believe in justified military or police force? Yes, I do. But the justification must be clear and for the good of us all.

The worst things we do to each other are often in the name of a higher good that may in fact be motivated by greed or fear or a kind of collective insanity. We need watchdogs to counter these dangerous impulses. I appreciate your heart, my friend. And your willingness to speak your mind. I would add to this the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when he said, "The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it...Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate....Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

Publisher's Note:

Thanks Eric for taking the time to share your insightful position with us. I WISH the world was a place void of the racialist, it is not.

Racism is ridiculous to the Creole Indian, as we ARE all "races".   We are the Shepard of the one true  race, HUMAN. Until we are genuinely able to see another person as ourselves, we shall remain lost within this "racial" chasm or class ignorance.

It is currently the great failure of our species. We humans are social cannibals, feeding upon the weaker's soul.
